I fell in love with Dim Sum long before our first trip to Hong Kong. There’s just something about those little bamboo steamers and all the deliciousness they contain. So it’s safe to say I was more than a little excited to ‘research’ where to find the best dim sum in Hong Kong ;) After spending two weeks eating our way through Hong Kong, here were are favourites…
One Dim Sum
One Dim Sum had to be one of my favourite Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong. It was everything I expected a Dim Sum restaurant to be; it was small, there was a line, it was casual and everything tasted delicious. Definitely one of the best Dim Sum in Hong Kong for a casual modern experience.

Maxims Palace City Hall
Lot’s of Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong are order off a menu and eat. I really wanted that trolley/cart experience, and found that Maxims Palace City Hall was one of the few to still offer this (lunch time only). Come early or be prepared to wait with a long line and ticketing system. A pretty fancy ‘chandelier hall’ type setting, there’s nothing quite like the experience of not knowing what dish will come past next or what you’ll end up eating. Loved our lunch here, the food was great and it gave me that traditional Dim Sum experience I was looking for. So Maxims Palace is my pick for best dim sum in Hong Kong for the ‘trolley’ experience.

Duddell’s
Duddell’s is split into two concepts, level 3 is a 2 Michelin Star restaurant and level 4 is a more relaxed ‘salon’ with a stunning outdoor area and all day dim sum. We tried level 4, the Dim Sum was delicious, albeit more expensive than some. But it was the beautiful surrounds and outdoor area that really made this experience extra special. Make sure to get a pot of tea, with endless refills, sitting and drinking tea gives you the time to relax and enjoy the space even after the food is all devoured.

Tim Ho Wan
So you’ve probably heard the hype surrounding Tim Ho Wan. We had and we weren’t sure if it was going to live up to it. With many different locations throughout Hong Kong (and the world), we first tried Tim Ho Wan at their Sham Shui Po location as many sources stated it was the best. We were not disappointed. Totally different to what we expected, it seemed more authentic than chain-like when there wasn’t even an English sign out the front which I loved. We of course had to have their famous baked BBQ pork buns. Absolutely delicious, it was that moment that I understood Tim Ho Wan.
We went back to Tim Ho Wan a few times, and also tried their Central location. The Central location is within a train station, very busy, and feels more like a chain restaurant. The food was still delicious, but I’d highly recommend the Sham Shui Po location for the best experience. Tim Ho Wan is my pick for best dim sum in Hong Kong for value for money and BBQ pork buns.

Ming Court
Although not technically a dim sum restaurant, this 2 Michelin Star restaurant focuses on authentic Cantonese cuisine. We did however have some delicious takes on dim sum that included steamed drunken shrimp dumplings and a pan-fried mushroom bun, that were absolutely amazing. Ming Court is pretty expensive so if you’re just looking for dim sum I would try the others on the list first, but If you’re looking for a Michelin Star experience and amazing food then Ming Court is fabulous.

Lin Heung Tea House
Not for the faint hearted, be prepared to enter the real Hong Kong. First, take your seat where you can find it, do not wait to be seated. Wash your tea cup with the water and tea provided first (just watch another person), and be prepared to chase down your food rather then have every trolley graciously pull up and stop at your table. Seriously, I followed suit and chased down 5 different trolley ladies, lifting the lid to who knows what before I luckily found BBQ pork buns on what was to be my last attempt. It was crazy but I loved it! But keep in mind it’s a very authentic, hectic place with good food but not amazing food. The steamed sponge cake was my favourite dish. It’s more about the experience, authenticity and history.
