Restaurants In Ljubljana
Julija Restaurant
This is a cosy and moody restaurant serving delicious food including some great local dishes that we loved. We tried the veal fillet with truffle mash and I believe they were called idrija zlikrofi, a Slovenian dumpling, which were so tasty. As we were there at the end of October, we loved the atmosphere eating our dinner in the warm restaurant by candlelight when it was so cold outside. This would be our pick for where to eat in Ljubljana for local flavours in a nice restaurant environment.

Abi Falafel
Abi Falafel is not a typical restaurant, more of a casual eat in or take-away place. But it’s a great lunch or dinner option if you’re wondering where to eat in Ljubljana for an easy casual meal. I know it’s not Slovenian cuisine but after a day out exploring Lake Bled it was exactly what we felt like and was really delicious.

Le Petit Cafe
This is a great place for breakfast or lunch. We decided a breakfast was a good idea here, well a late breakfast for us, so we got an egg dish and a risotto ;) It was a really nice lively atmosphere sitting outside. The chicken and mushroom risotto was good and so was the eggs Benedict. Le Petit Cafe was quite busy and seemed to be a local favourite too.

Tozd had my favourite coffee in Ljubljana, which we enjoyed sitting outside. It also has some nice seating and cafe area inside too. They are also a bar and do Slovenian craft beers and wines.

Cajna Hisa
Mandy loves her tea so this place was a definite for us to try, and we both loved the tea here. A really nice teahouse selling a huge variety of delicious teas. They also sell tea to take with you. We loved the black tea with coconut, which we also bought some to take with us on our travels :)

Klobasarna
This small shop sells a special type of sausage, the Carniolian (Kranjska) sausage, which is a protected recipe and specialty in Slovenia. It’s a really tasty sausage and comes with mustard, horseradish and a bread roll. Alternatively you can also try it with a soup. A great example of delicious Slovenian fast food.

Vigo Ice Cream
Easily our favourite Ice Cream in Ljubljana. Come here if you’re in the mood for great ice cream both to take and walk through the city, or head outside or to the nice area upstairs to have a seat and enjoy. I loved the cheesecake flavour but every flavour we tried we loved.

Local Ingredients and Cooking In Ljubljana
Ljubljana Central Markets
This is the place to get all your fresh local ingredients in Ljubljana if you’re cooking during your visit. It has an open market and covered sections. Worth a visit even if only to have a look or to soak up the atmosphere. Nearby is Plečnik’s Covered Market, which has many different shops including bakeries, butchers and pastry shops.
