Street Food In Siem Reap

Old Market (Psar Chas)

If you visit the Old Market before 8 am you will see an array of local food being cooked and devoured. We sat down and found an excellent Bai Sach Chrouk (pork and rice). There are so many things to choose from here, but the experience and atmosphere make it something to remember.

Night Food Stalls

The street in front of the Old Market (street 9) comes alive with street food stalls at night. Although aimed more at tourists, it’s a great place to try some delicious local dishes. Here we tried nom khrouk (coconut rice cakes), leek cakes, lort cha (short rice noodles) and banana pancakes.

Chanrea Dom Makara

So this is actually a small local restaurant, but a great place to come and try local food in a casual environment. The sign on the front actually says ‘Chanreash 10 Makara’, just so it’s easier to find.

BBQ Beef Skewers

Along this street, you will find lots of little street food stalls. We stopped in at one of them to try the beef skewers. We sat on a table with others and ate our tasty beef skewers, but it was more about the local experience, everyone was so friendly.

Restaurants In Siem Reap

The Sugar Palm

We had the most delicious pomelo salad here. Our other dishes were also good but the salad was the standout. This restaurant is in a nice traditional wooden setting which adds to the experience.

Cuisine Wat Damnak

Being named as one of the top 50 best restaurants in Asia in 2016, we went to Cuisine Wat Damnak with high expectations. But I have to say that our experience of Cuisine Wat Damnak was underwhelming.

Here you get a tasting menu. We thought the food flavours were lacking and the flow of dishes didn’t seem to work together. But the restaurant is beautiful, the service is friendly, and a lot of people and reviewers clearly disagree with our experience of the food. Overall, we had a nice evening, and the food was good, but it just wasn’t as impressive as we had hoped.
