After loving our time in Salzburg Austria, it was time to travel to our next stop, Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Even though these two destinations are only a few hours apart, transportation from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov is a little limited. We were surprised by what we found to be the best way to travel to Cesky Krumlov from Salzburg. So here is everything you need to know when planning how to get from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov, and our personal experience.
Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov By Train
Our first thought was, is there a Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov train? We love train travel, especially in Europe, but for this journey, the train was not the answer. If you want to travel by train, you will need to go from Salzburg to Linz, then Linz to České Budějovice, and then a train or bus from there to Cesky Krumlov. It’s much longer and a little disjointed, so definitely would not be our pick for the best way to travel between Salzburg and Cesky Krumlov.
Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov By Bus
There are limited direct buses between Salzburg and Cesky Krumlov, some better reviewed than others. Generally though from the reviews we read, we were not very excited to travel by bus to Cesky Krumlov. By bus, it would take around 3.5 hours to travel between Salzburg and Cesky Krumlov. But keep in mind that you also need to allow time to get to the bus stop in Salzburg and from the bus stop in Cesky Krumlov to your accommodation at the other end.
Driving From Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov By Shuttle Bus
Our Experience Of Travelling To Cesky Krumlov From Salzburg By Shuttle Bus: CK Shuttle Review
Best Shuttle From Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov
We used CK Shuttle and could not speak higher of our experience with them. There are a couple of companies that offer this service, but after reading reviews, we decided that CK Shuttle is the best shuttle from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov.
Booking And Confirmation
You can book directly with CK Shuttle here.
So how to book your CK Shuttle ticket from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov? Whilst there were a few steps, it was still simple, easy and clear. First search for your dates and locations. You will then select either, ‘Shared door-to-door shuttle’ (This is what we chose), ‘Shared non-door-to-door shuttle’, ‘Private Car’ or ‘Private Scenic Transfer’. You will then be able to enter all your specific pick-up/drop-off addresses and select a shuttle time as well as some personal details.
Your booking is not yet confirmed.
From here you will await an email confirming availability (double check the time) and a separate email with details as to how to make payment. Your booking is not confirmed until payment is received by CK Shuttle.
We then received a re-confirmation email 2 days before, just as a reminder, which was nice.
Pick-Up And Drop Off
You can either be picked up from the train station in Salzburg or pay a little extra to be picked up from your accommodation in Salzburg. We chose to be picked up at our accommodation as we weren’t staying near the train station. We were the first to be picked up and our driver was early which was nice (he was happy to wait until the pick-up time if we needed the time). Then we went to pick up passengers from the train station. We were dropped off at the door of our Cesky Krumlov accommodation which was perfect! Door to door transfers have a way of feeling luxurious and are so convenient. In the booking and confirmation process, they confirm all your addresses so the driver already knows where to go.
The CK Shuttle Vehicle
Whilst it is a shuttle service, the vehicle we had I believe was a 9 seater VW Caravelle. It was immaculate. Super clean and comfortable. Feels like getting from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov by car, with 6 new friends and a private driver rather than the shuttle bus image we had in our minds. We also were provided with a bottle of water each.
The Drive From Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov
Most of the trip is on motorways, but the scenery was pretty. Towards the end of the trip, you feel more like you are on beautiful small country roads. We especially liked following the river for the last 30 mins or so, watching all the kayaks and rafts floating down the river. The drive itself was comfortable and our driver, Hunsa, was great.
How Long Is The Drive From Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov
We were told it would take about 3.5 hours with a 10 minute stop halfway at a petrol station to go to the toilet and get snacks. It ended up being quicker than that for us. Our trip was about 2 hours 45 mins with a 10 minute stop halfway.
Best Way To Get From Salzburg To Cesky Krumlov
After our experience, we would have to say this is the best way to travel from Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov. We loved it. Although it’s a more expensive option, it’s so convenient and easy, on a route that doesn’t have great public transport options. CK Shuttle is a great company to do this with and would highly recommend them.
