Madrid may not be known for having amazing coffee, but there are definitely some gems that will keep you not only well caffeinated, but that also have unique interiors and great service. Here are our favourite picks for where to find the best coffee in Madrid and the best cafes in Madrid.
HanSo Cafe
HanSo Cafe has a hipster feel to it, with plenty of seating (although I imagine its always busy) in the small and cozy interior. The coffee here is excellent, quite possibly the best coffee in Madrid. We also had a chai latte and avocado toast with egg, both of which were equally delicious. I loved the atmosphere of this cafe, it just felt like somewhere you wanted to spend some time. The location in the Malasana neighbourhood was also great.
Calle Pez 20
Tuesday to Friday from 9 AM to 8 PM + Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 8 PM
Pum Pum Cafe
A beautiful cafe with a warm yet industrial feel in the Lavapies Neighbourhood. Be prepared to wait on weekends. Pum Pum does an excellent coffee, and of course, a delicious Chai Latte. We didn’t eat here but the food looked delicious and comes well reviewed. The Pum Pum Benedict looked particularly tempting.
Calle Tribulete 6
Monday to Friday 9 AM to 8 PM + Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 8 PM
Plenti
Plenti is the newest out of this lot but certainly makes an impression. A Scandinavian feel, this cafe is beautiful and the service is friendly. The coffee here is excellent, and we also tried the Mexican baked eggs which were the perfect way to start the day. Plenti is located in the charming Barrio de las Letras Neighbourhood.
Costanilla de los desamparados 13
Monday to Friday 9 AM to 7.30 PM + Saturday from 9.30 AM to 7.30 PM + Sunday from 9.30 AM to 5 PM
Toma Cafe
Toma Cafe is a staple in Madrid, forever recommended as having great coffee. We loved the coffee here, the interior is nice and the location in the Malasana neighbourhood is great. But in terms of atmosphere and just overall feel, it felt slightly lacking when compared to the others on this list. But I’m being really picky just to give you a better idea, it’s still one of the best cafes in Madrid.
Calle La Palma 49
Monday to Friday 8 AM to 8 PM + Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 8 PM
