Travel Inspiration: Where Travel Bloggers Want To Travel

Travel Inspiration

Travel Inspiration is everywhere. Reading a good book can take you away every time you open a page. Watching a movie can transport you to a foreign land, even if just for two hours. Stories from friends can be enough to get you searching online for flights.

But I was really curious to see where some of my favourite travel bloggers, people who travel frequently and have travelled far, where they were inspired to visit or re-visit. So if you were feeling like you were lacking some travel inspiration, here are the places these top travel bloggers would love to go…

Travel Inspiration: Where To Travel

Iceland

Megan Jerrard from Mapping Megan

Iceland

Iceland!  By far, Iceland is one of our favorite places in the world, and we would absolutely love to revisit in 2015. It is one of the last untouched destinations left on earth. It’s exotic, naturally beautiful, and largely untouched by tourism which we absolutely love.

We’re advocates for traveling off the beaten path, and huge fans of heading out into the wild without being followed by hordes of travelers and tourist buses. Iceland is the perfect destination for this, and the landscape is so spectacularly beautiful – waterfalls, glaciers, volcanic activity, dramatic fjords, snowcapped mountains and geothermal lagoons – it’s truly out of this world!

New Zealand

Matt Long from LandLopers

New Zealand

That’s a surprisingly difficult question because I tend to like most places I visit, BUT if I had to choose I’d say New Zealand. I’ve only been once and it was a brief, 9-day visit more than three years ago. I’d love to go back and explore more of this beautiful country.

Ethiopia

I would love to go to Ethiopia. I’ve heard great things from everyone I know that has been there, and I would love to visit.

Jordan

Audrey Bergner from That Backpacker

Petra, Jordan

If I had to choose one place, I’d say Jordan! I think this is a country people know very little about. Movies like Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones once put Jordan in the limelight, however, in many ways this country remains undiscovered to travellers. There is so much to experience here – camping with Bedouins in Wadi Rum, relaxing in the Ma’in Hot Springs, getting all muddied up for a dip in the Dead Sea, and coming face to face with Petra. The country blew me away and I think it’s such a great introduction to the Middle East.

Santorini, Greece

Will Tang from Going Awesome Places

Amoudi Bay, Santorini

If there’s one place I’d love to revisit in 2015, it’s gotta be Santorini in Greece. Ever since going in 2008, I’ve been itching to go back and hoping I get to in 2015 with a mini jaunt through Europe. Just thinking about those white painted houses, sunsets and ATVs has me excited! I also feel that my last visit was way too short and this time around I’m determined to explore more of the beautiful island.

Orkney, Scotland

My choice would be Orkney, the island archipelago north of Scotland. Not many people in travel blogging visit it or even know about it, and yet it’s one of the most magically beautiful places I’ve ever been (albeit in a bleak kind of way at times). I worked as an archaeology student on one of the northern Orkney islands and that’s when I fell for the place. I’m also a fantasy fiction geek, and Orkney is the closest thing to Ursula K. LeGuin’s “Earthsea” that I’ve found in the world. It’s a place of wide skies, strobing weather, savage cliffs and capricious seas in the winter, and eerily calm water and blazing sun in the summer. I got the second worst sunburn in my life in Orkney. :)

Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

2015 I will be travelling all year and have so many places planned that it’s hard to pick one! Right now I am most excited about the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. I have wanted to visit this site since first seeing it on TV 15 years ago.

On the complete flip side, the super bowl!

South Africa

Mike Richard from Vagabondish

South Africa

South Africa is among the greatest adventure travel destinations in the world with hiking, kayaking, shark-diving, paragliding, safaris, rock-climbing, bungee-jumping… the list goes on and on. Bonus: it’s pretty damn affordable too.

Cuba

Cuba! Since it looks like Cuba will be opened in the very near future I want to experience it while it still feels like stepping back in time.

Andaman Islands, India

I would love to visit the Andaman Islands in India. As a scuba diver, they’ve been high on my travel bucket list for years. The idea of an underwater paradise without the crowds is most alluring.

Where Will You Go?

A big thanks to all the travel bloggers, I’ve definitely got some more travel inspiration. It’s nice to dream of travel, but experiencing travel is like nothing else. So, where will you go?

  1. Although I would love to see New Zealand and Iceland for their natural beauty, South Africa and Tanzania have been on my mind lately. I’d love to see the landscape, nature, and spend time with the people.
