Where To Stay In Hoi An?
So where is the best area to stay in Hoi An? Choosing which area to stay in Hoi An can be confusing. There is Hoi An Ancient Town, the immediate surrounds of Hoi Ancient Town, Cam Chau, Tan An, and the beaches to name a few. The main choice you need to make when deciding where to stay in Hoi an is beach or town.
If the main reason for your visit is for the Ancient Town, then staying within the Ancient Town or its immediate surrounds would be best. Tan An is also quite close to the old town, but you would want to have bicycles to use to reach town (a lot of hotels and homestays provide these). Cam Nam is another option close to the Ancient Town, but again, a bicycle would be useful. Hoi An Old Town will be busy at night if you decide to stay here, especially if you are staying during a Lantern Festival.
If you would prefer to spend most of your time at the beach and visit the Ancient town once or twice, then An Bang Beach would be a good option. From here, you would need a shuttle or taxi to get into the Ancient Town. You could ride bicycles but it would be a long ride. Here the accommodation ranges from budget to luxury hotels and resorts on the beach.
If you want a little bit of both worlds, then Cam Chau is a good option. This is in between the beach and Hoi An Ancient Town. It’s about a 10 minute bike ride into the Ancient Town and 15 minute bike ride to Cua Dai Beach. From Cam Chau to An Bang Beach is about a 20 – 30 minute bike ride. Staying in Cam Chau also gives you a more local feeling, with a local market, rice fields and it’s much quieter than the Ancient Town.
