Where To Stay In Dubrovnik?
So where is the best area to stay in Dubrovnik? There are actually a number of areas to choose from when deciding where to stay in Dubrovnik. Of course you have the Old Town, then you also have the surrounding areas of Ploce, Lapad, Babin Kuk, and Gruz.
The Old Town is a great choice if you want to live in the history and stunning architecture of Dubrovnik. Also great if you want to feel like you’re living in Game of Thrones, as, if you didn’t already know, parts of the popular tv show are filmed here. If you want to spend most of your time in the Old Town it’s a good choice, but keep in mind it will be the busiest and noisiest area to stay in. Your hotel may have tourists, restaurants or bars surrounding it, which may mean noise until at least midnight. Depending on your hotel or the specific location within the Old Town, this may or may not be an issue. Take a look below at our Dubrovnik accommodation guide for where to stay in Dubrovnik Old Town.
Ploce is located just outisde the Ploce Gate to the Old Town. Right near Banje Beach, Ploce continues along the coast. This is a fantastic area as you will most likely get views of the Old Town, be close to the beach and be able to walk to the Old Town. You will also have less tourists directly around your hotel and therefore outside noise shouldn’t be an issue. The hotels in Ploce Dubrovnik are some of my favourites and here’s where you will find some of the best luxury hotels in Dubrovnik.
From Lapad and Babin Kuk, you can still easily reach the Old Town by bus, but will be in a quieter area. There are a lot of hotels in these areas, so you may get more value for money. There are also beach areas and hiking paths. This area would also be great for families.
Gruz is home to Gruz Port, an area where cruise ships dock and where you may catch a ferry to the islands. So staying here if you are coming from or going to the islands is very convenient. It also has a small town local feel about it.
